Κατέκτησαν τις τρεις πρώτες θέσεις στο διαγωνισμό Έκθεσης Ιδεών με τίτλο «Cyprus-Russia Business Relationships – The way Forward» του Κυπρο-Ρωσικού Επιχειρηματικού Συνδέσμου και του ΚΕΒΕ
Φοιτητές του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου είναι και οι τρεις νικητές του διαγωνισμού Έκθεσης Ιδεών στην αγγλική γλώσσα για τις σχέσεις Κύπρου – Ρωσίας με θέμα, “Cyprus-Russia Business Relationships – The way Forward” που προκήρυξε ο Κυπρο-ΡωσικόςΕπιχειρηματικός Σύνδεσμος και το ΚΕΒΕ.
Ο διαγωνισμός της έκθεσης ιδεών διεξήχθη ανάμεσα στους φοιτητές πανεπιστημίων στην Κύπρο στο πλαίσιο της προσπάθειας του Κυπρο-Ρωσικού Επιχειρηματικού Συνδέσμου και του ΚΕΒΕ για προώθηση νέων και καινοτόμων ιδεών για την ανάπτυξη των επιχειρηματικών σχέσεων μεταξύ της Κύπρου και της Ρωσίας
Στο διαγωνισμό έλαβαν μέρος 28 Κύπριοι και ξένοι φοιτητές, οι οποίοι φοιτούν σε ακαδημαϊκά ιδρύματα της χώρας μας. Η Επιτροπή Αξιολόγησης του διαγωνισμού αποτελείτο από εκπροσώπους του ΚΕΒΕ, του Κύπρο-Ρωσικού Επιχειρηματικού Συνδέσμου, της Τράπεζας Κύπρου και της PWC.
Η απονομή των βραβείων στους νικητές του διαγωνισμού έγινε την Τρίτη, 19 Απριλίου στο ΚΕΒΕ από τον Πρόεδρο του Κύπρο-Ρωσικού Επιχειρηματικού Συνδέσμου κ. Ευγένιο Ευγενίου.
Τα βραβεία του διαγωνισμού δόθηκαν στους ακόλουθους φοιτητές του Πανεπιστημίου Κύπρου:
1ο Βραβείο: Αντώνης Καμηλάρης, τεταρτοετής φοιτητής του Τμήματος Οικονομικών: €1.000 και ένα ταξίδι στη Μόσχα (4 ημέρες, 3 νύχτες συμπεριλαμβανομένων του εισιτηρίου και της διαμονής),
2ο Βραβείο Ανδρέας Αυγουστή, τεταρτοετής φοιτητής του Τμήματος Δημόσιας Διοίκησης και Διοίκησης Επιχειρήσεων: €750
3ο Βραβείο Κυριάκος Παναγή, πρωτοετής φοιτητής του Τμήματος Λογιστικής και Χρηματοοικονομικών: €500
Οι νικητές του διαγωνισμού ανέπτυξαν την κριτική τους σκέψη, επέδειξαν δεξιοτεχνία στο γραπτό λόγο στην αγγλική γλώσσα, ερεύνησαν με επιτυχία το υπό εξέταση αντικείμενο και συνδύασαν με αποτελεσματικό τρόπο τις ακαδημαϊκές τους γνώσεις. Και οι τρεις φοιτητές έχουν παρακολουθήσει τα μαθήματα αγγλικής γλώσσας που προσφέρονται από το Κέντρο Γλωσσών (ΓΛΩ100, ΓΛΩ101, ΓΛΩ201, ΓΛΩ209). Τον διαγωνισμό στήριξαν η Τράπεζα Κύπρου και η PWC.

In modern times things evolve very quickly. Due to technological progress every day something changes. The economies, the political situation the people; all these are connected. To watch only the changes is not enough. You have to follow and adjust to them. If you are influential maybe you can determine them.
Russia and Cyprus are two countries with excellent relations in many sectors. In recent years Russian activity expands in the sectors of housing, storage and transport because of the huge number of Russian tourist arrivals. Meanwhile, Cypriot and Russian business people collaborate in the sector of real estate mainly in Limassol and Paphos. As it is obvious by some statistical evidence, in 2013 total assets (investment by residents abroad) reached €21.3 billion whereas total liabilities (investments by nonresidents in Cyprus), reached €33.67 billion. A big economic activity if we think of the size of Cyprus in a difficult year. The biggest part of the chart was from Russian investors. Now in Cyprus 50 000 Russians live and work. According to recent evidence 8663 from these people claimed the Cypriot citizenship. A huge number in a country with 800 000 population.
The competition between countries is big. New emerging economies mainly in Eastern Europe are now a good destination for Russian investors. In my opinion with some simple measures we can transform our country to an attractive destination for foreign investors. One of this, is the low corporation rate at the first years of company in our country. Despite that our country faces budgetary problems the low tax rate of new entrants companies will not make it worse.
A big problem for Cyprus is unemployment. Almost 15% of our compatriots are unemployed. This number reaches the 30% of people under 25 years old. The Government can give subsidy to foreign companies which employ Cypriots. Or other tax incentives. The Cyprus government acts as a mediator between young people and Cypriot companies (HRD Programs). Why doesn’t this happen with foreign companies? It is a win-win situation for both sides.
As a student of the University of Cyprus I realize that the collaboration between Russian Universities and Cypriot Universities is limited. There are many things that can be done. Exchange student programs at the beginning. Liaison offices of the universities can introduce undergraduate and postgraduate students to companies and organizations to start work and take experience. Similar opportunities are offered by the European Union.
Another way to achieve this aim is through private funds. There are huge Russian organizations which finance researchers in other counties. In my opinion we have high-level academic institutions. So let’s give incentive to this organization to support our universities. Both sides will win.
