Το ‘Bake Sale’ είναι μια μικρή, αλλά σημαντική, εκδήλωση που διοργανώνεται για 2η συνεχόμενη χρονιά από μια φοιτήτρια του Πανεπιστημίου Λευκωσίας. Απώτερος σκοπός του ‘Bake Sale’ είναι η βοήθεια των άπορων φοιτητών του Πανεπιστημίου. Φούρνοι, ιδιώτες, γονείς και φοιτητές μπορούν να προσφέρουν διάφορα γλυκά τα οποία θα πουληθούν στην καφετέρια (Millennium) του Πανεπιστημίου Λευκωσίας στις 6 και 7 Μαΐου από τις 10.00 μέχρι και τις 14.00.

Leyana, tell us some things about you and the event.
My name is Leyana Daccache and I am a student at the University of Nicosia and I have once again taken initiative to organize the Bake Sale for a second year in a row. The Bake Sale will take place in the Millennium Cafeteria on the 6th and 7th of May from 10:00-14:00. Last year was a great success and we managed to raise a large amount of money which was then donated to the Autistic Association in Cyprus. The difference this year, is that the money raised will be donated to the Student Support Fund of the University.
What is the reason for doing such an event?
The reason I am doing this again is because I believe in the importance of volunteer work and helping other people in general. It is very important for our generation to realize that our age, we should be helping and doing as much as we can for people who we know are in need. We are young, energetic and most definitely capable! The feeling after knowing you have been successful and helpful towards others, is more fulfilling than you would ever imagine.
What do you expect from the public?
I would really appreciate from anybody who is reading this and who feels the same way about this subject as me to help in any way. Whether it is a donation of 5 euros, or a cake or even coming along with your friends and buying some sweets that will make your belly very happy for the rest of the day! At the same time, you will be helping someone who you may never even meet in your life but who will be thanking you anyway.

Do you have anybody to thank for last year’s successful event?
Firstly, I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped me set everything up and also the Student Affairs Department for their support and help on the day too. Also, Zorbas Bakeries for their donations and everybody else, friends, family who donated too. I would really appreciate and be grateful for any help possible. I hope you will consider it, and even if you don’t, you should still come along anyway!
