Mi Bunny: Maria, do you know any stories about this place? Maria: I know a few; some are true, some are myths. Mi Bunny: Which one is your favorite? Maria: Well, there is this one about a princess who was in love with a guard. Mi Bunny: A guard? Like those who guarded the Great Wall? Maria: Exactly. He was a fine man. And she was beautiful as well. Mi Bunny: If he was guarding the Great Wall,how would they meet? Maria: She would pray to the Moon every night to take her to him. And the Moon would listen. Who could deny the wishes of a sad beautiful princess? Mi Bunny: What about the emperor? Did he know about this? Maria: Well, one day the princess told her father about her love affair. You see, the guard wanted to ask for her hand, but it wasn’t that easy to meet with the emperor in person. Mi Bunny: And did the emperor agree to meet with him? Maria: Yes. But that was only to behead him. You see, the emperor had a cold heart and his daughter brought shame to the family. So after he sentenced him to death, he punished her as well. Mi Bunny: What did he do? Maria: He locked her in a tower just like this one, and he forgot about her. Every night the Moon would show the way with his light to the villagers and they would secretly give her food so she wouldn’t starve. But she would cry and cry and cry.
